I went to bed fairly late last night / early this morning. I was hanging out with people from the paper, had a good night overall, lots of fun. We started playing Contra on the original nintendo system, we finished it. It’s a really easy game to beat, I remember finishing it as a kid. I still enjoy playing it at any rate. Staying up late made me sleep until mid-afternoon, which doesn’t really matter that much if the weather outside is shitty.

Whipped off a new layout this evening after my math test. It’s nothing special, I just needed a change. I don’t really know how long it will last, perhaps a few months due to the approaching exam season, maybe a few days.
It’s a sorry state of affairs when you have to start banning parrots from the bar.

Assignments here, quizzes there, lots of work everywhere. Bad openings too. Last week is done, no assignments to do this week, although a couple to start. There’s a test tomorrow night that shouldn’t be too bad. It’s the part of calculus I like, actually doing math equations, rather than analyzing graphs and describing functions and whatnot. I deffinitely like the equation aspect of math much more.
There has been various job interviews interspersed with the work, no luck yet. I have to get out and get more resume’s in, I need a job for the summer.

Hell.
March 20, 2001
Haven’t written much in the last few days. I go through writing phases of some sort, sometimes I like to write a lot, other times I just forget about it all together. It looks like it’s going to be another hellish week, three assignments and a quiz. I half of my algebra assignment done at the moment and a decent chunk of my computer assignment finished. That leaves economics and my calc quiz. There’s a possibility of getting the quiz out of the way tomorrow tuesday night instead of wednesday, but it would involve me studying tuesday afternoon. That way, I could go to the golden words masthead meeting. I had an interview on the weekend and I was made one of the new webmonkies for the paper, the guys in charge of the online version.
Lots of school. I had a job interview on friday that I think went pretty well. I have another one tuesday aft. It looks like there’s a decent chance of me sticking around here this summer. Time to finish off a bit of work and get to bed.

Gah, I ended up with 42% on the nerd test (read 58% nerd pure). I guess i shouldn’t really expect any less being a computer science major.
March 15, 2001
Just enjoying a little bit of somewhat free-time. I’ve trying to get some work done now, so next week won’t seem quite as hellish. Our algebra midterms were handed back this morning, I did quite well, although I made a couple stupid little mistakes.

Not really a whole lot going on, just enjoying having no assignments due this week. Managed to get laundry done, dishes cleaned, room cleaned up and a bit of work done to boot tonite. Pretty effective evening I must say. Conform will be updated shortly, I have another image to go up. Received a call today regarding a job application i put in a week or two ago, it will probably take place later on this week. I’m also going to be doing a little bit more freelance webdesign, just a little page for someone.
I’ve seen a couple movies recently, finding forrester and gods and monsters. Finding forrester was essentially good will hunting with an english prodigy instead of a math prodigy, sean connery instead of robin williams and a poor black kid instead of a poor white kid. It was still a pretty good movie though, I enjoyed watching it. It expresses some similar views that I have about a lot of the bullshit that tends to permeate the world of analyzing english literature, sometimes you just have to enjoy what was written and not destroy your impression of it by picking it apart. Gods and monsters was pretty good too, Ian McKellen does a great job acting as usual, and Brendan Fraser’s role in the movie was surprisingly well done compared to a lot of the people he tends to portray in movies.

It’s 10:30 now and common sense dictates that I should probably go to bed.
Apparently, george w bush hangs out with idiots.
It’s 7:30 in the morning and i’m still awake. I went out with the golden words crew, well the guys at first for a boys night out. We hooked up with the girls later at one of the campus pubs. I ended up at my editors apartment with a few other people, it was a lot of fun. Rambling away on various topics of conversation and then we realize that it;s 6:00 in the morning. I left and went to macdonald’s for breakfast. I talked to some homeless people who were drinking coffee, getting away from the outdoors for awhile. It really isn’t that cold out, a beautiful morning.
It was the first sunrise i’ve witnessed while i’ve been here in kingston. I was surprised, our campus actually looks pretty amazing in the early morning light. There’s sunlight streaming through my window. Why would i want to go to bed?

Free, free for a moment, with that feeling that everything is done for a short period of time. There’s nothing due tomorrow, nothing due within the next week, time to catch up on some reading and catch up on some sleep. I passed my computer midterm, that made me happy, my algebra midterm went well today and the two assignments i handed in were well done. Time to be happy. I’m think i’ll sleep for awhile, then clean myself up and go downtown.

My desk is very cluttered right now, it’s attached to the wall and isn’t very computer friendly. I guess they didn’t think about that when they designed the building back in the 60’s. The last post was typed with the keyboard on my lap, which isn’t all that bad, but you’re limited to how far the cord will reach. It made me think that a wireless keyboard would be nice, then I could sit wherever i please and could type with the keyboard behind my head if I wanted to. Although a cordless mouse and keyboard would just be more things to get lost in my various piles. I can imagine myself standing there cursing and trying to find them in the mess.
Dupe dupe dupe. Sitting here trying to study some calculus but it doesn’t seem to be sinking in, i still have an hour or so until the quiz. I essentially finished up all of the computer assignment, there are a few spots i’m not sure about but i’ll have someone look them over tonite. That means there will just be algebra to study for tonite, with the midterm tomorrow morning at 1030.
Algebra midterm tomorrow, algebra assingment due tomorrow, computer assignment due tomorrow, calculus quiz tonite, it makes for a fun time. The algebra assignment is essentially done and i’ve done some studying for the midterm. I’m going to get the computer one done this aft.
To give me something else to do, contributers to conform have been responding rather quickly, hence two updates in one day. It’s something to do for a break from the school work anyway.

Leave it to compaq to actually post an faq message explaining the any key.
Been thinking a lot recently about the future, what I want to do with my life. I think in recent weeks i’ve discovered that computer science isn’t one of things i want to do. It’s not that it’s really that hard, I guess I just don’t like programming. It’s probably good to figure something like this out now, rather than 2 or 3 years from now. At any rate, it’s a lot easier to change my major and what I want to do during my first year. I think I might head into economics, not entirely sure at this point. I might try taking some english courses or history courses next year, so I can start doing some real writing again.

Went and saw traffic saturday night. It was an impressive movie but I’m not sure if it would be up for an oscar nomination in a year with better movies. However Benicio Del Toro deserves all the credit he’s been getting, he did a great job acting in the movie. I spent yesterday at golden words, working on this weeks issue of the paper. It was a lot of fun, I was there until about 2am, the latest I have ever stayed. I was helping out with the layout, it looks pretty cool.
The weather is absolute shit today, you really don’t want to bother going outside. Lots of snow and wind and blowing. Time to work on my algebra and computer assignments and study for an algebra midterm. At least the algebra assignment is a chunk of the studying for the midterm.
March 2, 2001
Finished off the economics assignment, took a little bit longer than i expected this morning to get the final product done, had something like 25 graphs on the bloody thing. Have some more studying to do this aft for my psych midterm. I’ll be functioning on a low amount of sleep, but it won’t matter too much because i will have been awake for long enough. I had an insane caffine buzz last night around 2 in the morning, you’re supposed to put level teaspoons in the cup, not heaping. Time for some more work.

A good article over at cnet that explains a bit about overclocking and why people do it. It’s addictive anyway and the truth is that a lot of the time you don’t really need that extra speed, it is just to be a hardcore geek.
Ahead lies a day of working on my economics assignment due tomorrow and studying for my psychology midterm tomorrow evening. The word of the day is propensity: the ability to or the capacity towards. It came up in my econ assignment, I didn’t even know it was a real word. It was used in the context marginal propensity to save.
Beyond that, I tried to update conform last night, but for some reason i couldn’t access the ftp. I managed to get onto it this afternoon and get it updated. Suffocate is hosted on dreamhost, so am I, and they’re in the process of transfering the sites from one set of servers to another. The goal is increased stability and services, I was moved in mid-december. The transitional phase isn’t perfect, so there can be some expected glitches in the suffocate site over the coming days.
