Summer Time

Posted on April 29, 2002

Exams are all finished up, I can come back to the land of the living. Sure enough, the weather has turned. An evil beast that one is. Sunny and warm during study time, cold and uninviting afterwards. Another week or two. To complete the triumverate of boredom I’ll mention cleaning, specifically Spring cleaning. Our house is a disaster, something needs to be done about it.

Power to the Puppets

Elmo really gets around, first it’s an appearance with Kofi Annan, now it’s appearing before the Education Appropriations Committee.

A Common Bond

Posted on April 24, 2002

George W. Bush and Johnny Cash celebrate their common bond, coke.

What A Year

Posted on April 24, 2002

Wes outlines what he actually learned during the school year. My schedule was the same as his minus film and history, insert intro to business and english. Two more exams to go, then it’s break time. Well work time, but no school work.

Cristie Kerr Celebrates

The poor girl. And it was her first victory on the tour.

New Music

Posted on April 22, 2002

I put up some new songs in the music section.

Exam Time: Students in Season

Posted on April 21, 2002

And lo a week comes forth with great pain and suffering. When it is finished, all shall be happy. I have an English exam on Tuesday, Programming Paradigms on Thursday and Software Specifications on Friday. After that last one, the great weight will be lifted. Actually, the exam season isn’t weighing too heavily on me — I should probably be doing more preparation than I am.

Dancing Bush

Eilis sent dancing bush my way. It’s bad, but still pretty funny.

Friday Five

Posted on April 19, 2002

A change of pace means the friday five, this one happens to be about television. I don’t watch as much television as I used to; more internet. When I do watch, it tends to be sports games or 24 hour news feeds… sit down watch a bit and then leave. Sitcoms tend to suck pretty badly.
1. What’s your favorite TV show and why? Late Night with Conan O’Brien. Conan’s the man, hands down.

2. Who is your favorite television star? See 1. Although, if you could hear sarcasm through text, I would say Wolf Blitzer. What a stupid name. There’s also a guy on CNN named Major. Damn.

3. What was your favorite TV show as a child? Polka-Dot-Door.

4. What show do you think should have been cancelled by now?
Friends. I watch it occasionally, but I’m surprised that it’s lasted as long as it has.

5. What new show do you hope escapes the axe this season? Greg the Bunny. I haven’t watched it too much, but it’s like the return of the Muppet Show.

Joel Plaskett Emergency

Posted on April 19, 2002 — 1 Comment

I went out to a local bar last night and saw The Joel Plaskett Emergency play. I really enjoyed the show, he’s a good live performer (the cover was only five dollars, so that helped too). There are a few mp3s for downloading at his site if you’re interested in checking it out.

New Design

Posted on April 19, 2002

I came home after my exam yesterday morning and started working on a new layout. My brain seemed to have turned into mush, so I wasn’t really able to do any productive school work. The new design is also due to the outside world looking really nice at this point, I figured that I needed something a little bit brighter to suit the spring/summer.

Van Wilder

Posted on April 16, 2002 — 1 Comment

I watched Van Wilder in the wee-hours of the morning. It’s a decent movie, kind of mindless — you can see where the plot is going within minutes of starting. Sometimes you need movies that turn you into a drooling vegetable. Wisely, the trailers don’t show as much of the underlying romaintic comedy… it’s not all that good. Some of the gags are, so it’s somewhat worthwhile watching.

Websites for the Blind

Posted on April 16, 2002

This tool allows you to see what a website will like like to people suffering from a form of blindness. My current site seems to hold up alright, there aren’t any reds in it though.

Guided By Voices

Posted on April 14, 2002

News, news, news. Guided By Voices announced awhile ago that they’re heading back to Matador and releasing a new album later this year. Here’s an interview with Bob Pollard by The Onion’s A.V. Club from around the time Do The Collapse came out, it’s worth reading. And lastly, if you haven’t listened to GBV before, you can tune into a 24 hour shoutcast stream [courtesy Largehearted Boy].

Reading and Film

Posted on April 14, 2002

I finished up reading The Diviners last night. I read it earlier for a high-school English class, I think I liked it better the second time around. It probably helps that I’m more interested in writing this time around and the novel is essentially dealing with the creative process of writing.

For now, I’m off to see some student film screenings. Andrew and Dave are both showing their year-end projects, as well as a bunch of other film kids I know. It should be a good time.

More Stupid Flash Animations

An orthopedic surgeon with a great website. Actually, it’s horrible but the intro is pretty funny. Watch it.

Obscure Laws Suck

Posted on April 13, 2002

Second Degree Lynching, makes sense to me too. School yard violence is a problem, but lynching?

Frogger

Posted on April 11, 2002

I got my brother’s Atari 2600 working finally, he has Frogger, Ms. Pac-Man and Space Invaders. Damn, Frogger is a good game. My high score at the moment is 1280 and should only be going up. Thankfully the Atari stays here, while I go back to Kingston tomorrow morning. No Frogger during exams.

Atari FAQ

Posted on April 10, 2002

It’s an FAQ that tells you almost everything you ever wanted to know about an atari game system. There are collectors who know the subtle differences on different game labels — it’s crazy.

Make Your Eyes Bleed

Posted on April 10, 2002

This video has to be one of the more bizarre things I’ve seen lately. David Hasselhoff and Oooga Chaka, hmm.

LotR: Two Towers Trailer

Posted on April 10, 2002 — 2 Comments

Here’s a bootleg of the trailer for the next Lord of the Rings movie. It has shitty quality and the screen flickers but it seems like the movie is going to look pretty damn good. That and the Two Towers is probably the most intense book in the trilogy meaning the movie will probably be so as well.

Randomness is Good

Posted on April 10, 2002

This looks like a nice little website statistics analyzer, it’s shareware but I haven’t looked into the licensing so I don’t really know how long you can use it without paying. A nice free alternative is Analog, it can be run on your server or you can download the logs and run it at home.

Here are some more toys to play with: Moho is a powerful 2D animation tool and Argus is a little webcam program. Dave (housemate) is using Moho for his final film project this year, it’s looking pretty cool. I found Argus yesterday, which is why the webcam is back up — it’s small, simple and skinable, best of all… it’s free.

Yet Another Test?

Posted on April 9, 2002

The frequent waster-of-time says find out what html tag you are. I have been told: You’re the FONT tag- some people ignore you, some people adore you. When you like someone, you like them a lot, but when you don’t like them- watch out.

Arlington Road

Posted on April 9, 2002

I watched Arlington Road on television tonight. I remember seeing it a couple of years ago when it came out on video and liking it then. I still think it’s a pretty good movie, albeit somewhat atypical. I don’t think a lot of people like the ending, it’s just not the way Hollywood movies are supposed to be. Suffice it say I think the ending’s great and is what makes the movie more compelling. The movie is fairly relevant today, considering that the word ‘terrorist’ is thrown around all too much. It’s a chilling movie and worth watching if you haven’t seen it.

Bananas and Cream

Posted on April 9, 2002

Classes finished up on friday, so did a week full of assignments. Now exam time approaches. I took the weekend pretty easy, just had some fun and let loose. Now I’m going to head home for a couple of days, hang out with the family and get some studying done. It was my brother’s birthday yesterday, so I’ll need to pick something up for him. He told me he picked himself up a present in an Atari 2600… something else to get distract me over the next couple days.

It’s always tough when someone calls it quits online, especially when you’ve been reading their website regularly for awhile. So, I wish Simon the best in whatever he chooses to do. Endings and beginnings seem to walk hand-in-hand… Suffocate has had an active mailing list for the last couple of days — something we haven’t had in months. So it’s looking like we’re going to have some action again. I’ll have more time soon, so I think I’ll try and get Conform up and running again. I never officially closed it, just kind of gave up on things. At any rate…

Fun Animation

Here’s a fun animated character to waste some time with.

More Random Crap

Posted on April 4, 2002

Greg the Bunny, I think the show has potential. It’s like the muppets — prime time puppets. Highlight of the night:
Look at your co-star.
Crayons taste like purple.

I was in the JDUC between classes and a CD sale was just starting up. I grabbed a copy of Resident Alien by Spacehog. It cost me three dollars. Cheap CD’s are good.

Search Queries

Posted on April 2, 2002 — 2 Comments

Yesterday was an odd day for search engine queries. Here are some of the more intesting ones:

giant testicles
dragonballz porn
dogs penis
cyclic redundency error
hardrive tandem
fake britney tutorial

I do in fact host a deviant porn site, that may be my undoing. Although that still doesn’t explain the cyclic redundancy error. Essay Essay Essay.

Fun With Fonts

Posted on April 1, 2002

The Scourge of Arial, an interesting article for anyone interested in type-design and layout. via kottke.

Hopefully, I’ll get around to making some more fonts during the summer months. I really have to play around with things a bit more, learn about kearning and whatnot.

Muppet Quiz

Posted on April 1, 2002

Quizzes are always fun to kill some time. This one’s the Muppet Quiz.

The result: You are Fozzie! Wokka Wokka! You love to make lame jokes. Your sense of humor might be a bit off, but you’re a great friend and can always be counted on. Link via maura.
