I downloaded sdk 1.3 from sun this afternoon, the newest version of the java developers kit, i had an earlier 1.1.x version running before. I also grabbed jbuilder 4 from borland, we had been using version 2 for class. It’s the same program, albeit a little bit more userfriendly. However it’s not the most userfriendly program to begin with. I also discovered the ver 1.3 of the java developer kit is bundled in jbuilder 4, so i didn’t have to download it.
I also found out that they decided to use a new textbook this semester for the computer course that I took last semester, so I probably wont be able to sell it if I want to. Well, I can probably get rid of it, i just won’t get as much for it. It’s wonderful having an 18 month turnover period for the software and hardware associated with computing, it’s not great when the textbooks are only good for a year or two though and doesn’t have that much resale value. Unlucky more than anything I guess. The course one level down from that used the same textbook, so the people that are in it now are probably more angry that they have to get a new one.
It’s cool to experience the true web like nature of the internet, the web portion of it anyways. I talked to flossends tonite, who found my site through maura who found my site through my link to winn. I can’t remember how i found that site for sure, it was either through a link to my site from his or through ryan’s site. And it goes on…

I’m wanting to watch the teaser trailer for lord of the rings but real player is insisting on downloading updates and taking it’s time doing so. It just finished downloading some parts and is now telling me I need more parts, who knows. It and windows media player both try to take over your computer, we need different video players.
Deadlines are fun to work with, I tend to get a lot more accomplished if they are closer rather than farther away. Three assignments, a quiz, a website to get done, all by friday. It makes the weekend appear much more inviting. The realization that in a few days it all be behind you, and then you get to start again on the next batch. I finished off the computer assignment this afternoon. I’ll head down and do those much needed loads of laundry and plug away at the algebra assignment.
Last night I went curling for the second time since i’ve been back at school. Before that I hadn’t gone out in at least eight months. I actually played pretty well last night and ended up sticking a great shot to win the game. I watched Titan AE while I was doing some work this afternoon (and evening). It thought it was a decent movie, the animation and story were alright. I liked it better than a lot of the animated fare i’ve seen come out from disney in recent years.
There’s a picture at the nasa site of a plane flying in front of the sun, it looks pretty cool.

I went to a presentation tonite on microsoft tv with some talk about the .NET initiative. They having some interesting connectivity things going on. The ability to have different devices intereact with the internet (with most of your data online) and with each other. Wireless technology and calenders and whatnot. It sounds pretty amazing in theory, but there are some underlying issues with privacy and information overload.
I asked the presenter about privacy, i think my question was a little too vague, because he skirted some of the problems. His response mainly entailed data security involving biometrics, like having to have a finger print or retina scan to access your personal data. That’s great, some average joe can’t figure out what my schedule for the day is but what about corporations? He was talking about your cell phone knowing where you’re located and targeted advertising, perhaps getting offered coupons to a store you walk by, or information about it, maybe a little add will popup. With these devices sending data back and forth, corporations will know more about us than the government. There will be digital copyright management to protect the intellectual property of these company’s but there will be very little in place to protect the identity of the individual.
My internet connection is being flakey as hell tonite, things aren’t loading properly. I’m assuming that it’s a problem with the queen’s servers rather than the internet sites themseves.

Just a fun weekend, hanging out with friends here. My parents and one of my brothers decided to pop up and see me yesterday. I hadn’t seen them since the holidays, so it was nice. Now i have a week full of assignments to look forward to, hunker down and work hard.

Anabu-kin-chan, a commercial for a japanese construction company, it has a racoon with giant testicles and other woodland creatures with giant breasts. Go figure.

I forgot to mention that the queen’s engineers finally got their pole back last week.
The new design is up now, didn’t really have any problems with getting it functional in blogger, i was surprised. A couple george bush pics, courtesy of email friends: first, second.
I have a bunch of web design stuff to work on this weekend. I’m working on a new layout for this site, not that the current one looks bad, i’m just in the mood to redo it. Also have to get started on redesigning conform for the relaunch as well as a website that i told my cousin i’d do.
The teaser trailer for artificial intelligence is out now, it doesn’t really show much though. I want to see this, it’s a spielberg film, the initial idea and planning was kubrick’s. He wanted to do the film for years, but the technology to do it wasn’t available.

I was downtown this afternoon and stopped by a bunch of used cd stores that I didn’t know existed. I picked up the new jets to brazil cd called four corner nights. Listening to it right now.
Scientists are thinking that pluto shouldn’t really be called a planet.

A new project, untitled.nu and a relatively new design at surfstation.
George W Bush is in fact a machine.

I’ve been feeling a little under the weather the last couple days, picked up a bit of a bug or something. A sore throat, makes my voice deep and raspy, kind of funny. Went out with a couple guys this afternoon to look at a house for next year. It ended up having what we were looking for, so we signed the lease. It’s in a pretty good location, clean, nice landlord, etc. About the only thing it didn’t have was a washing machine/dryer (which you don’t find in many house anyways).

I saw Requiem for a Dream with a few people last night at a small theatre downtown. Somehow I managed to get in for free. There didn’t seem to be anyone around to take tickets. The projectionist was probably the only person working there and he can’t really sell tickets two minutes before it starts. The movie was pretty good, it leaves a powerful anti-drug message. It also has some good acting and good camera work. It is however one of those indie films that won’t leave you with a happy feeling after watching it, a drug movie probably shouldn’t. It was made by the same director who did Pi.

The new president likes the taste of nuts, an affinity for bull testicles.
Check out the naked news, it’s hilarious. Well and there’s naked women too.
Play jeopardy online. On the slow side, but rather addictive.

Marissa has redone abandon.org. As usual, it looks great.
January 13, 2001
I was doing many more updates when I was back at home, it’s kind of died off since i’ve returned to school. Maybe it’s because i’m not browsing the web as much.

Someone is suing mcdonald’s again. Our society is getting pretty fucked up when people sue over stupid shit like this. She’s also suing her mother too. Family life must not be too good in that household. It was spilled on her ankle too, I enjoy drinking coffee with my ankle. Coffee is hot, you have to boil it to get the flavour right, maybe her mom didn’t teach her that coffee is hot. That’s quite a bit of money too, i could justify $450000 if you spilled it on your genitals and were unable to have a family, but the ankle? I think I’m going to sue a clothing company because my clothes shrank in the wash and it’s causing irreparable damages to my body.

The hellcouncil has some pretty pictures.
Updated conform again. A shameless plug, i did the most recent image in the series. First day back at classes today. I realized that I haven’t been to a class in over 5 weeks, although i did have exams. I did alright on my exams, not great but I didn’t fail any. All is good.

I’m back at school now, alive and kicking. Got the webcam up and running again here and also hooked up my new scanner. I discovered two of my marks today, i am happy. I passed my computer exam, which i thought i failed and i also passed calculus. Happy happy. There are some people back already, it’s nice to see them again. I played a bit with ssi last night, incorporating it into the layout. The sidebar is easier to update now, because i just have to change one text file rather than everypage. Cedric suggested that i try using php so I could get a feel for it. I’m going to be using it for the next conform layout.

The NSA abandoned an area in the wilderness and some astronomers got ahold of it. I would have liked to pick that place up on the open market, it would be a cool place to live. You came home at 2 last night eh? Ha! The perimeter computer says that you came in at 4.
They’re not going to make a grinch sequel. Oh, what a shame, I wanted to watch how the grinch stole christmas again.
There’s a brief photoshop 6 tutorial up at builder.com. It goes over a couple of the new features to ps6, they also mess around with a portrait of mao.
Ended up watching hollow man tonite. It has some neat eye candy, but that’s about it. A minor detail that got to me was when they sprayed stuff on kevin bacon, he had hair, but when he was wearing the latex mask he didn’t. There’s also the fact that kevin bacon is invincible. You can watch him survive as he gets burnt with a flame thrower, beat over the head with a crowbar, electrocuted, survives a massive explosion that practically destroys the building before finally dying falling down an elevator shaft. I’m not really destroying the ending, it’s not like it can’t be seen a mile away.

I conquered the world tonight, well almost. I essentially won the game of risk I was playing. We decided to call the game because we were sick of rolling the dice. I was in position to win, barring me running into an extreme losing streak. It wasn’t likely to happen.
Mike Lecky has a new site out. A web design firm of some sorts, so long superfunk, i guess it’s gone. It just wont be right with that name under someone else’s control, I remember the original orange layout and him getting sued or something by a band with the superfunk name, idiots.
Grammy nominations are out. Big deal, it’s worse than the academy awards. Screw it, i’m just bitching because most of the stuff I listen to doesn’t end up getting nominated. The viewers choice awardsby muchmusic are probably the worst, it ends up being all the 12 year old girls voting for backstreet boys or whatever. The mtv viedo awards are pretty bad too, they do the awards more based on the song/popularity as opposed to the actually technical aspects of the video.

Just posted a new image to Conform.
I rented Way of the Gun tonite, it was the only copy left out of five on the shelves. Then you notice something like Scary Movie with fifty out of sixty copies still on the shelves. Way of the gun was a good movie although sometimes it can be hard to follow. It’s one of those movies that you have to pay attention to every scene so you don’t miss something.
Blogger’s been acting up a little bit lately, so sometimes posts don’t make it through. I found a fake britney spears nude pic that used a font i made on it. I guess that’s the last place i figured it would turn up.

Another year; the last one didn’t seem that long. The year’s seem to be getting shorter. Yesterday’s date just looked good 01/01/01.
Started playing a game of Risk at a friend’s house yesterday afternoon, left and then came back at night. We stopped playing at 3am but the game isn’t close to finished. I control australia and most of asia. Asia is looking touchy right now, most of my armies are concentrated along the african/european borders facing the armies of two other people with weak forces defending equally weak forces from north america. The guy controlling north america has 80 armies coming to him next turn, it’s looking dangerous. A Risk faq.
