Didn’t do a whole lot last night. Met up with cam and went out to his place on west campus. His room is smaller than mine. We went out cosmic bowling with a bunch of people from west. I didn’t actually bowl, only 12 people at a time could, so we just sat in the background and had a couple beers. Time to sit down and get some work done, have a number of assignments to do.
September 29, 2000
Did work this afternoon, i’m going to try and get a bit done now, before i do anything tonite. Friday night doing work, sad. Never would have happened last year.

Perhaps liquid crack would satisfy the homeless and the hungry.
I got my computer back earlier today. They got it done early, that’s how to make me happy. So i’ve been spending some time re-installing stuff and browsing around the internet. I’ll try and get some of my notes typed up tonite, catch up a bit. Only have one class tomorrow, maybe i’ll get some work done.
September 27, 2000
I talked to ITS on the telephone this afternoon. They didn’t even get around to looking at my computer until earlier today and they discovered that i was going to need a new harddrive. Wow, they have some real geniuses working over there. I told them last friday that i had bad sector error’s and was going to need a new harddrive. They could have ordered me a new one then, but they didn’t. Now, i’m going to have to wait until at least friday to get it back, a slim possibility of getting it tomorrow or after the weekend.
Bah, i can’t go check out the sites i goto everyday, or waste my many hours on the machine. I have been getting a lot of reading done, although it is hard to type of notes without a computer. Yes, i’ve been typing notes. It’s kind of like re-writing them, but i can type a lot faster than i write, so it’s more productive.
September 26, 2000
My computer is with its right now. I had a bunch of bad sector error’s, must have just been a bad drive. I’m without computer tonite, so i’ll probably do a good chunk of reading. I can’t type up any notes, that’s the one bad thing about not having a computer sitting in front of me.
September 25, 2000
Haven’t been writing as much lately, had a busy weekend, although i didn’t get the much work finished. I have a computer assingment due tonite at midnight, should be fun getting it finished. It’s one of those things that doesn’t appear to be too hard, but it keeps presenting you with new problems when you think you have it figured out. One more class to go today; psychology.
September 24, 2000
It’s homecoming weekend here. I went to the football game this afternoon, got to see a lot of old alumni parade around the field. There was a thunderstorm here and we had the power knocked out for a couple hours in our residence. We still had a lot of people left on the floor. We ended up having a lot of fun. I have a bunch of work to get caught up on tomorrow.
September 22, 2000
I just started work on my first computing assignment.
Updated conform this afternoon. The new image is by ben didier.
Hmm, didn’t get around to writing anythng yesterday. Didn’t really get a whole lot of work done yesterday. I only have one class today so I’ll probably spend a good chunk of the day working. It’s homecoming here at queen’s, apparently there’s going to be a lot of people around. Lots of partying too.

Some of the highlights from my day at school. Well professors proving that they are in fact falible human beings. Well, there’s calculus and us using real world data that was in fact made up; our prof described it to us as a pretend real world. Then there’s economics, dealing with property rights and government regulation, protecting shamen and schmooze populations. Err, salmon and moose rather, that’s just his accent though. There was psychology too, talking about how they perform intelligence tests and academics generally prefering iq tests, rather than something like gauging a machinist’s skill or something (different type of intelligence). The exact wording? We like using them because we do good on these intelligence tests.

The wonderful things that emerge from the suffocate discussion group.
An article in the toronto star about hotline. I used it a year or two ago, but I had forgotten about it. It’s not like the newer peer to peer software programs out there, this is a good old client/server app.
We don’t usually create answers in search of a question. We create questions in search of an answer. One answer can have multiple questions, just as one question can have multiple answers.
The Queen’s Engineer’s grease pole was stolen engineer’s at the university of toronto. More pictures.

The mediabasement is cool.
I’m glad i decided to start typing up my notes. I realized tonite how bad the my writing was in economics today, something to do with being half asleep maybe?
The network is moving really slow tonite, it must be congested. Either that or it’s sucks. Maybe an excuse to do some more work? I’m about to sit down and do some reading and notetaking and so on. Maybe download some music during my breaks. Or restart my computer, is that why it’s slowed down? Doubtful, but worth a shot.
I just got back from economics. It felt like I slept through the whole class. My head kept falling over, nodding off. I have complete notes though. I woke up 5 minutes before the class ended, totally awake and alert. It was weird.

Yah, spank the monkey. Good ole joe cartoon preaching morality and family values to the rest of the world.
Conform is in the houston chronicle.
September 16, 2000
Conform has been updated again. Love it when we get going fast like that. Anyway, this one’s by carey townsend. That’s it for now. I think i’m going to do some homework, then i might head off downtown.
I went out and saw the cell tonite, with a bunch of people from my floor. The verdict? Well, it was fucked up. It was an alright movie, a lot of the effects were pretty cool, some of the plot elements were a bit thing though. They didn’t do a great job on character development either. There are some parts that you really can’t figure out why they put in. A lot of it was going for the shocck factor of things.
Conform has been updated. The most recent image is by crankbunny.
An interesting artice on mac os x and what it’s made of it. Well the BSD core anyway.
September 15, 2000
One class today, so i’m done. There’s no one around on the floor, so i think i’ll get some reading and notetaking done. There’s a bbq for cisc students today at 12, i might go.
I just watched empire records. I’m sure there are lots of people who have seen this and loved it. I finished watching it and it had almost felt like i had been asleep or soemthing. I don’t really know, there wasn’t a whole lot to it. Maybe i’ve been watching too many movies lately where everything doesn’t work out perfectly in the end.
There are some wicked animations here.
September 14, 2000
Snarg is cool.
Make a mental note to avoid getting disoriented, stripping naked and trying to enter someone’s house in pensylvania.
I came close to falling asleep in economics class. I don’t know what it was about the class today, but no one really seemed to be paying attention to the professor. His accent is hard to understand and he doesnt always talk loud enough. Tune him out, copy down the overhead. Hmm. I had to signup for a computer lab for a third time. I’ll probably have to do it again, it was a mess this time as well. You think they could figure something out.
September 13, 2000
Started up a new digital quilt over at the spot (see roberta and dave).
Had algebra first thing this morning. I think a lot of people left the class not entirely sure of what they had done and what they were supposed to do. We had smiley faces associated with some strings of numbers, welcome to univeristy. We’re supposed to take the two geometric series that have smiley faces and combine them and develp a formula for the series. Calculus wasn’t bad, the teacher seems kind of fun anyway. I’m going to make sure i read the economics textbook before i head off to class so i know what’s going on. The prof is hard to understand, he puts the wrong emphasis on words when he’s talking so nothing sounds right. Thank you for overheads. Off to psych this afternoon.
September 12, 2000
Go see 0003, it’s different. Simple, but good.
Just went and signed up for some recreational sports. Signed up for some recreational badminton and intramural curling. Recreational curling costs 80 bucks and intramural curling costs nothing, figure that one out. I couldnt sign up for varisty try outs because i dont have my stuff up here. Oh well, maybe next year. Also picked up the last textbook i need. Actually, they’re course notes, but you still need them.
I don’t have any classes this afternoon, so i decided to sit down and update conform. I don’t have any graphical editors installed yet, so i had to do it in notepad. Sometimes repetitive updating is easier when you dont have to do it all by hand. Anyway, the third series has started at conform so go check it out.
Conform made the britannnica site of the day. It had a pretty good review too. The new conform will be starting up any time now. Look for it.
September 11, 2000
It’s sunny out now. I’m all done my classes for the day. Just finished up my psych class, there’s 450 people in my section, it’s huge. I had economics earlier this aft, my prof has an accent and is hard to understand at times. There was a poster sale this aft, so i picked up a couple posters. A lot less whitespace on the walls now, has a lived in look now anyway.
It’s really humid and foggy out. It appears kind of cold when you look outside, but once you start walking around, you realize it’s an evil trick. It’s not really cold, but i’m going to make you sweat like a mad bastard because you were foolish enough to wear a sweatshirt. We’ve had great weather the last week, for frosh week and all. It started raining last night and it’s overcast/rainy right now. If i remember my english, that’s pathetic falicy, the classes start and so does the rain.
Well my first two classes went pretty well. Most of it was basic intro stuff and what we were going to be covering throughout the year. The tests, assigments, exams are worth a lot more than the high school ones, so i’m going to have to put more effort into my studying. We allready received a problem in algebra to think about.
September 10, 2000
Got to sleep in good and late today. Today was a totally free day, no frosh stuff. Ended up going downtown this aft with a bunch of people from my floor. Picked up a few little things and a few groceries. Visited with some other brockville people tonite, other than that I didn’t do a whole lot. Tomorrow classes start. Monday is one of my heavier days, but it really isnt that bad. Hopefully i can find all the buildings and get to my classes on time.
September 9, 2000
Got to sleep in a bit today, it was nice. Today’s main event was basically the mud olympics. Different variations of diving through mud covered tarps. I ended up covered head to toe and dirt was still coming out of my eyes and ears hours later. There was also a football game this aft. I ended up not going to it, i was going to go but didnt get around to it. Next weekend is Kill McGill and the following weekend is homecoming, the two important ones to go to. There’s a semi-formal going on tonite, it starts in about an hour. I’m going to get dressed and go to it.
The concert tonite was tea party. It was allright, the band was good, but the crowd really wasnt into it that much. The live show i saw in brockville back in june seemed a lot better. Not a whole lot going on tonite. Had a small floor party. Not every one on the floor, still it was fun. The went out for a walk, down by the water. I used to walk my dog late at night. Going outside at 2 or 3 in the morning is wicked, everything is so quiet. Even played a bit of frisbee in the dark. Drunk frosh with a black frisbee at night is damn funny. Bedtime.
September 8, 2000
Hey frosh how do you feel? We feel so good! Oh! We fell so good! Oh! Painted our coveralls and got our tams today, woowoo! Some pics: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. That’s it for now. We have a surprise concert later on tonite. I’ve heard the band is supposed to be the tea party.
Another long day and i haven’t gone to bed yet for some reason. Second wind, that one you get when you’re tired. Prevents you from going to sleep. We started off the day by going to drama presentation about first year issue and stuff like that. Next was a hypnotist show, blair robertson. I’d seen him before at my old high school. The show was different though. The afternoon was a thing in the library and a scavenger hunt around the campus. I skipped out on the scavenger hunt, just need some downtime. Tonite was more big auditorium presentations. We had Sex with Sue, which rocked and the illusionist/mid reading show that was kind of scary. That kind of how the hell do they do that stuff, you can’t really tell what’s real and what’s not. Then just hanging out with the people in the common room. Yah, people are actually using it now.
September 7, 2000
I noticed that marissa put up a new site. It’s probably been up for awhile, but i didnt get around to visiting it until just now. I haven’t visited a lot of sites.
A hardcore day of screaming and yelling. Lots of fun, crazy fucking fun. I’m loving it. Have the standard queen’s art/sci uniform; coveralls and a frosh tshirt. Had a carnival type thing this aft, events involving shaving cream and paint. A house party at a gaels’ house now and then some we hit stages, a club in downtown kingston.
September 6, 2000
Haven’t had a chance to update a few of the sections on here yet. Still have to get some ftp software and stuff set up.
A little break after lunch. Opening ceremonies and lots of screaming and yelling. We’re meeting again in about 45 mins. Have to go pick up a set of coveralls to get dirty in.
It’s the morning, i’m awake. Had my shower, don’t really have time for breakfast. Handi-snacks and coffee here we go. Events begin shortly.
I got my computer back earlier this afternoon, but haven’t really had a chance to update. Everything is working now, soundcard and internet. I’m happy. High speed, woohoo. Had a floor party thing going on, so far res has been fun. Frosh week with other people from our program starts tomorrow. So far it’s only been residence stuff. Getting to know the people on your floor. I have to be up in four or five hours so i’m heading off.
September 4, 2000
Well, i should have been on the internet earlier today, but its fucked up my computer. I set everything up, it’s nice and fast. I discovered that the sound card and the network card dont work. I dont do a whole lot other than listen to mp3s and browse the internet. Nice eh? Couldnt they have fucked up something i don’t use.
September 3, 2000
Errol has killed mental. It was a good site. He is moving on to surfstation and his personal site.
All packed and ready to go. Finished the last bits of packing off tonite and cleaned up the room a little bit. Cleaned up the mess i left on the computer too. Tomorrow i’ll be living in kingston. Still no school for a week; frosh week.
Eat all your pie, there are children starving in africa. In an unrelated matter, you can have your pet immortalized as a work of art. Right right, brilliant idea.
Why do people hang dreamcatchers on their rearview mirrors? Oooo, they look pretty. At least when they fall asleep at the wheel they won’t have any nightmares. What a dumb fucking idea.
I watched Se7en tonite. Good movie, good indeed. For some reason i hadn’t seen it yet. You’re say to yourself, I want to be a crime scene investigator. You could see the ending coming, it’s not quite as surprising as usual suspects. If you haven’t seen Se7en, I recommend it. It’s directed by David Fincher, the same guy who did Fight Club, another one of my favourites.

Oh what great fun disturbing auctions can be. I think a golfing dead frog would be a wonderful addition to the desk of any golf nut.
It’s nice to know that celebrities can get away with possession of illegal substances. I’m glad that they’re so important and can get around the laws. Good old democracy, equal rights for all.
An expansion is going to be released for diablo 2. I’m not into the game hardcore, i set down and play it everyonce in awhile. I’m past the first act anyways. Haven’t really played on battle.net. Busy with work and getting the new site up I guess.
September 1, 2000
Conform was in the netscape what’s new section yesterday. Not surprisingly, the majority of the hits were from netscape users. It usually tends to get a higher percentage of ie users.
Another place you can get an older version of icq. This one is 98a 1.112. I was told that this one is better than 1.2 and 1.3.
Found a place where you can download icq98, 99 or 2000. It’s good to know. I’ll probably download 98 at school. It works fine talking to people with the other versions and is way less bloated. Won’t chew up as many system resources.
I’ve been playing around with javascripts tonite. It’s kind of crazy stuff. Here are some good resources: javascript.com, webreference and free scripts. The last link has a whole lot of scripts to help you do just about anything. On a somewhat related note, the language they use in my first year computer science course is java. I bought the textbook, it’s basically looks like one of those self-help books you buy at a bookstore. I could be wrong though, I haven’t taken off the shrinkwrap yet. Java anyway, not javascript.
